About Dugout Intel

Free advanced baseball analytics, powered by Statcast

What is Dugout Intel?

Dugout Intel is a free MLB analytics platform that brings pitch-level Statcast data to every fan. We cover all 30 MLB teams across multiple seasons, giving you deep situational breakdowns for every batter and pitcher on every roster, the kind of analysis that used to require expensive subscriptions or advanced data science skills.

What data do we use?

Every stat on Dugout Intel is derived from Statcast, MLB's pitch-tracking system installed in all 30 ballparks. Statcast records the speed, spin, movement, and location of every pitch, along with exit velocity, launch angle, and spray direction on every batted ball. We pull this data from Baseball Savant and process it into the splits and charts you see on each player page.

Roster data comes from the MLB Stats API. Salary information is sourced from Spotrac, and Wins Above Replacement (WAR) comes from FanGraphs.

How often is data updated?

During the season, Dugout Intel automatically fetches new Statcast data each morning at 6 AM ET, covering the previous day's games. Rosters are refreshed weekly to reflect trades and roster moves. Historical data is available going back to the 2022 season.

Is it really free?

Yes, completely free, no account required. The site is supported by Google AdSense ads. If you find Dugout Intel useful, the best way to support it is simply to visit and explore.

Who built this?

Dugout Intel was built by a baseball fan and software developer who wanted a faster, more intuitive way to explore Statcast data without paying for a premium subscription. The entire pipeline, from fetching raw pitch data to computing splits and rendering charts, is custom-built in Python and Flask.
